What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is an ongoing process of assessing health care and social services organizations against standards of excellence to identify what is being done well and what needs to be improved.

Organizations that take part in our accreditation program choose to do so because they have first-hand knowledge of the contribution accreditation makes in improving quality, reducing risk, and strengthening accountability.

Accredited organizations devote time and resources to identify what they are doing well and what could be done better—and then take action to address issues so they can provide the best possible care and service to their patients and clients in order to save and improve lives.

AC accredits hospitals, virtual hospitals, senior’s and residential homes, rehabilitation centres, home care agencies, medical labs, health education programs, various ambulatory services and almost everything else in between.

Assessment Programs

Health Standards Organization has developed a suite of assessment programs that allow you to measure quality, including specialty programs that help organizations improve quality in specific areas, such as trauma and stroke networks, and programs specific to care settings, such as long term care.

Assessment and Regulatory Bodies, Government, Associations or Institutes may license one of our existing assessment programs or sponsor the development of a customized program.

HSO’s existing assessment programs include Accreditation, Distinction and Recognition. While these programs are based on the same principle of evaluation and improving performance against a defined set of standards, they each have different scopes.

We believe the pursuit of quality should be proactive, people-centred, evidence-based, and drive continuous learning and measurable improvement.
